S.A.A.C.
Our next meeting is:
A student-athlete advisory committee
(SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight
on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the
rules, regulations and polices that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA
member institution campuses.

The Constitution of
the Washington and
Preamble
Approximately
50% of the student body at
Article I (Membership)
Section
1
·
Membership
to the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) will consist of 1 or 2
representatives from each of the 23 NCAA sanctioned teams. You must be an active member of this team to
take part in this committee. These
representatives should be from different grade levels at the college. Coaches may appoint their representatives, or
each team can hold a private election for their representatives. The representatives are elected for a term of
one year.
Section
2
·
Members
will serve as a liaison between the committee and his or her individual team,
and express any ideas or concerns of teammates to the committee.
Section
3
·
Members
are responsible for attending all meetings of the SAAC. If they are unable to attend, they are
responsible for finding an alternate from their respective team to take their
place at the meeting.
Article II (Purpose)
Section
1
·
Each
member of SAAC is expected to promote communication between student- athletes
and the Athletic Department and the college.
Section
2
·
One
of the goals of any team in any sport is to produce a quality product for
people in hopes that they will attend their games. SAAC seeks to encourage unity, support, and
bring camaraderie between teams and among all varsity athletes.
Section
3
·
We
want to design and implement programs which will encourage academic
achievement, health, fitness, and social responsibility.
Section
4
·
As
an important voice in the athletic department, it will be the job of the
committee to solicit student-athlete response to proposed PAC and NCAA
legislation.
Article III (Officers and
Duties)
Section
1 (The
President)
·
The
President presides creates the agenda, with appropriate input from the
representatives and other officers, along with Advisor. He or she serves as a liaison to the Athletic
Director and members of the Athletic Department and can call meetings as
needed, in consensus with other officers.
The length of the term of the President is one year.
·
If
the President is dismissed, the Vice- President assumes all authority of the
office of the President and can appoint a new vice- president from the other
officers, or from the representatives.
·
The
President also has the power to appoint a new Vice- President, Secretary and
Treasurer if those seats a vacated for any reason. Although the President does not need the
approval of the committee to make an appointment, it is in his or hers best
interest to seek the guidance of the other officers and representatives in the
committee when appointing a new officer.
This is called “unofficial approval.”
Section
2 (The Vice-
President)
·
The
Vice- President presides over meetings when the President is absent and plays a
role in setting the agenda. The length
of the term of the Vice- President is one year.
·
If
the President is absent for three weeks, or longer, or is spending time in a
study abroad program, the Vice- President will serve as the acting- President
and possesses all rights and privileges of the office.
·
If
the Vice- President is dismissed, the Secretary assumes all authority of the
office of the Vice- President.
Section
3 (The
Secretary)
·
The
Secretary presides over meetings when the President and Vice- President are
absent and plays a role in setting the agenda.
The length of the term of the Secretary is one year.
·
If
the President and Vice- President are absent for 3 weeks, or longer, or are
spending time in a study abroad program, the Secretary will serve as the acting-
President and possesses all rights and privileges of the office.
·
If
the Secretary is dismissed, the President can appoint any member of the
committee to that position.
Section
4 (The
Treasurer)
·
The
Treasurer handles all disbursements of cash and collects receipts for all
expenditures and reports the balance of treasury at each meeting. The length of the term of the Treasurer is
one year.
·
If
the President, Vice- President, and Secretary are absent for 3 weeks, or
longer, or are spending time in a study abroad program, the Treasurer will
serve as the acting- President and possesses all rights and privileges of the
office.
·
If
the Treasurer is dismissed, the President can appoint a member of the committee
to that position.
Section
5 (Advisor)
·
The
Advisor is selected by the Athletic Director.
He or she will attend all meetings and offer insight from the
perspective of a Washington and Jefferson coach or faculty member. He or she will also provide information
discussed at the coaches meetings that have a direct impact on SAAC.
Article IV (Code of Conduct)
Section
1
·
Every
officer (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer) is elected be the
current members of SAAC. Each officer
must be an active member of at least one varsity sport at
Article V (Meetings)
Section
1
·
SAAC
should meet twice a month. Additional
meetings may be called by Officers, the Advisor, or the Athletic Director when
deemed necessary.
Article VI (Voting and
Amendments)
Section
1
·
The
representatives are selected by their respective teams. The election for the offices occurs in
March. The election for representatives
occurs in August. Representatives may
serve as many terms as they wish.
Officers may run for as many terms as they wish.
Section
2
·
When
voting on legislation, each team will be granted one vote. The Advisor does not have a vote. If a team’s representative is absent, that
team’s alternate may vote in their place.
If the representative is absent and does not have an alternate, then
that team’s vote will not be counted.
Absentee votes will only be accepted if the representative is traveling
with their respective teams for which they play.
Section
3
·
When
voting for Officers, every team has 1 vote.
The Advisor does not have a vote.
The recipient of the most votes for each office in question is declared
the winner. In the case of where an
election is decided by a difference of 2 votes or less, one recount may take
place. After the final tally of the
recount, if the outcome is the same, the election is closed and the recipient
of the most votes is declared the winner.
If final tally of the recount has different outcome than the original
tally, then a second recount will take place.
After the final tally of the second recount, the recipient of the most
votes will be declared the winner.
Article VII (Activities)
Section
1
·
As
focal points of the college, it is our responsibility to organize and
participate in one community service activity for all student- athletes each semester. We also must plan at least one educational
and/or health related program for student- athletes each semester.
Section
2
·
At
the appropriate times, we must provide opinions and input about proposed and
existing PAC and NCAA legislation.
