Woodhouse's Toad (Bufo woodhousei)

The Woodhouse's Toad prefers sandy beaches near marshes, but also resides in irrigation ditches, backyards, and temporary rain pools. It is widely distributed throughout most of the United States. It is found in eastern Montana and North Dakota, south through the plains states to central Texas, and west of the Rocky Mountains from Idaho south to Colorado and Arizona, with isolated populations in west Texas, southeast California, and the Oregon-Washington border. This toad is primarily nocturnal, seen at night catching insects beneath lights. It hides during the day in its burrow or hides in vegetation.
