Green Frog

Rana clamitans

Identification: may sometimes be more brown than green; dark brown or green dorsal blotches usually present; venter mostly white with some mottling under legs and head; dorsolateral ridges do not go all the way to the groin

Habitat: shallow, fresh water such as springs, creeks, ditches, brooks, and small streams; along edges of lakes and ponds

Voice: sounds like a loose, explosive banjo string

 

Range: Maritime provinces to North Carolina; west to Minnesota and east to Oklahoma; introduced to British Columbia, Washington, and Utah
