Rana palustris

Identification: uneven, irregular square spots arranged in two rows down the back; bright yellow or orange on concealed surface of hind legs; light line along upper jaw; dorsolateral ridges extend to groin; whitish venter

Habitat: cool, clear water such as bogs, rocky ravines, and meadow streams; in the summertime, wanders into grassy fields or weeds

Voice: steady, low-pitched snore

Range: Canadian Maritime Provinces south to the Carolinas; west to southeatern Minnesota and east Texas
