Coluber constrictor
Northern Black Racer

This snake has a divided anal plate and a shiny slate back skin on it’s back and it’s belly. There is however a small patch of white on it’s chin and throat. It has a narrow head with a yellow lens, meaning that it’s a diurnal snake. This means that all of it’s hunting is done during the daylight hours. All racers have fifteen rows of scales. Adult sizes range from three to five feet. The young of the Northern Black Racer looks gray and is marked with dark spots on it’s sides. There are also dark gray, brown, or reddish brown blotches down the middle of the back. All of these markings are usually lost by the third summer.
