Admission Requirements

Applicants to Washington & Jefferson must submit a completed application for admission, which includes:

  • A $25 nonrefundable application fee

  • A complete official high school transcript including current rank-in-class*

  • One letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor

  • All SAT or ACT scores, unless applying Score Optional. 

  • Additonal letters of recommendation and supporting materials may also be considered.

The Admission Committee will look for a minimum of 15 academic units in the following distribution:

  • Three units of academic English

  • Three units of academic mathematics, including Algebra I and II and Geometry

  • Two units of the same foreign language

  • One unit of history, social science, or natural science

  • And six or more academic courses from the above areas

Most applicants have more than the minimum academic units. Primary emphasis is placed upon the academic record and rank-in-class, followed by standardized test scores, extracurricular activities and personal statement. The highest available standardized test scores are reviewed, so be sure to send all scores to the Office of Admission.
