Alumni Celebrate Their W&J Love Stories
During your time at Washington & Jefferson College, you were challenged in the classroom, experienced one-of-a-kind travel opportunities, and created lifelong friendships and bonds. For some, you also met that special someone. In honor of Valentine's Day, we celebrate the love found at W&J by sharing some of your love stories.
I met my future husband - Robert Breedlove '94 - in July before I started at W&J. I was at a friend’s house and he was outside washing his car. My friend said that he went to W&J and some of the other people I was with dared me to talk to him. I did and asked him how he liked the College. A month later, he called for a date and three months later we were engaged. He was a senior, and I was a freshman. We waited until I graduated before marrying!

My husband, Anthony Burns ’09, apparently had his eye on me freshmen year, but I first noticed him sophomore year during one of our education courses. We became great friends and soon realized it was meant to be. We traveled abroad for a semester junior year, became engaged in Munich, Germany, and got married right after graduation. We will celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary this year.

Steve Colosimo '96 and I met early in our sophomore year outside the Alpha Tau Omega house. We were pinned shortly before graduation and got engaged on Valentine's Day 1998. We have been married since 1999 and have a three-year-old daughter.
- Rebecca Titus Colosimo ’96
Amanda Soraiz '12 and I met at W&J performing a play, Love@1stPlight, written by Drew Aloe '09. The play followed my character as he chased after a girl, played by Amanda, not realizing until the end of the show that it was actually his best friend who he was in love with. It was through the play that Amanda and I actually became best friends in real life, and then, much like my character in the show, I came to my senses and decided that I was actually in love with Amanda. About a year and a half later, we started dating.. We are getting married May 24, 2014.

My wife, Robin Haag Ente ’03, sat in front of me in meteorology class during my senior year and her freshmen year. It was her second class at W&J. I noticed her right away and made conversation. The next day I turned her desk upside down before she arrived in class. When she arrived, she threw a shoe at my head, and we have been together ever since.

I started dating my W&J sweetheart, Jason Glass '97, the fall of 1994. We were married in 1998, almost 16 years ago. We have three beautiful children, ages 12, 10 and 8. We have been blessed with a great education and a wonderful life.
- Pamela Hook Glass ’95
Dan Miller '13 and I met my sophomore year and his freshman at Beta Theta Pi. We began dating that summer, both having summer classes at W&J. We managed to go on two wonderful and amazing Intersession trips together to London and Italy. On December 20, 2013, he proposed! And of course, I said yes!
- Samantha Grahn '12
Matt Grogan '03 and I met on the very first day of freshmen orientation! We were in a class with students from all over the country led by Dr. John Mark Scott '69 and former W&J President Brian Mitchell. We started dating only a couple of days later in September 1999, graduated together in 2003, and have now been married for nine years! All thanks to W&J!
- Sara Goldstein Grogan '03
Ken Jacobson '03 and I started dating my freshman year and his sophomore year. Our pinning was a couple years later, and we were married October 14, 2006. Our daughter was born last May!
- Shay Begley Jacobson ’04
Seth Litman ’91 and I met the first week of school in 1989 at the Kappa Sigma house, and we were good friends at first. We began dating in 1990, were pinned in 1991, and married in 1997. W&J is still a very special place for us.
- Mary Kuster Litman ’93
Kyra Fedorovich ’11 and I met our freshmen year. We were friends for the rest of college but nothing more. I had a secret crush on her the entire time and six months after graduation, I finally built up the courage to ask her out on a date. She accepted and it turned out that she also had a secret crush on me as well. We have been together two years now and will be getting married next June!

Brady McMahon ’07 became my W&J sweetheart after the Phi Delta Theta Halloween party in 2005. Two years later, during his senior year, he pinned me. We got engaged in the fall of 2008. This summer we will be celebrating our fourth wedding anniversary. Thanks W&J for the great memories!

It was my senior year and first Intersession on campus, and I was quickly acclimating to the life of W&J in January. One night, I found myself and a few of my Pi Beta Phi sisters gathering in the Delta Tau Delta house apartment when a dreadful song started coming out of the speakers. After the other girls begged me to change it, I walked back to the computer controlling the music.
There Stephen Prohaska '13 was: a gray t-shirt, blue jeans, and smile that you can’t ignore. After talking to this gentleman all night, I finally gave him my name and number. Pretty much every night after that was spent together, sharing stories, me teaching him how to two-step, him admiring my sketches for my intersession art class, and watching the worst episodes of The Twilight Zone for his.
Unknowingly, we were both registered for the same poetry class taught by Dr. Mulvania for the spring semester. Of course, this was used as an excuse to spend extra time together studying and working on our papers. Formals, pinnings, and the best senior week I could ask for fashioned memories I will never forget.
Thank you, W&J, for offering me some of the best times of my life with the best person I could have ever met.

Ryan Silvis '01 and I met freshmen year in calculus, but we didn't start dating until the end of senior year after I asked him out. We were married in 2002 and just celebrated 11 years!
- Nicole Palmer Silvis ’01
Matt Strehl '10 and I met on a Student Advisory Board trip to Gettysburg in 2007. We were married in the chapel of Old Main last October!
- Lindsay Harlow Strehl '08
I met my sweetheart, Michael Williams ’04, our freshman year at W&J. We began as friends, a wonderful way to begin a great love. We had an absolute blast. He showed his talents on the football field while I cheered at the top of my lungs. I wasn't a cheerleader, just a very short yet surprisingly loud person.
He helped me study for my infamous psychology exams courtesy of such legends as Dr. Nicholas Cavoti, and we even took a few courses together. Professor Bill Cameron's playwriting was one of our favorites! We had a beautiful pinning ceremony with the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, some of the best guys I know. He kept me company during my RA rounds in Beau and the New Dorm. We even took road trips in my trusty Ford Escort. In February, we will celebrate 12 years together. In May, we will celebrate eight years of marriage, and we are still having fun! Thanks W&J for the amazing memories and for allowing me to meet the love of my life!
