AmeriCorps is an opportunity to make a big difference in your life and in the lives of those around you. It’s a chance to apply your skills and ideals toward helping others and meeting critical needs in the community.
Each year, AmeriCorps offers 75,000 opportunities for adults of all ages and backgrounds to serve through a network of partnerships with local and national nonprofit groups. As an AmeriCorps member, you’ll gain new skills and experiences—and you’ll also find the tremendous satisfaction that comes from helping others. In addition, full-time members who complete their service earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back qualified student loans; members who serve part-time receive a partial Award.
W&J AmeriCorps Community Fellows Program
W&J offers students the opportunity to participate in an AmeriCorps program throughout the academic year. This program is the W&J AmeriCorps Community Fellows Program, which is managed through Pennsylvania Campus Compact (PACC). The purpose of the AmeriCorps Community Fellows Program is to address community needs in the areas of college access and success, while developing college students as active citizens. A W&J Community Fellow will commit to completing 300 hours of service over the calendar year in order to receive an educational award stipend of $1,175.
Community Fellows will work with a variety of local and regional non-profit agencies and schools to provide tutoring and mentoring to students in K-12. The youth will look to the Community Fellow as a mentor, teacher and friend.
The AmeriCorps Communinty Fellows Program is temporarily on hold for the 2013-2014 academic year. If you are interested in a similar program offered through W&J, please see our W&J Volunteer Corps!
