Update on Weather Conditions Related to Hurricane Sandy

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning and a flood watch for our area through Tuesday evening (10/30), due to wind and rain from Hurricane Sandy.

The campus community can expect heavy rain, ponding water and strong winds during this time. The campus is open. All planned activities, including classes and registration, remain on schedule. The Commons and other dining services are operating as usual. If there are any campus-wide changes, updates will be posted online and/or communicated via email.

This is a significant weather event and there are things we all should do to minimize the chance of disruption to the campus community.

Pay attention to ponding water in low-lying areas, parking lots, and basements. Let Facility Services (x6086) or your RA know if you become aware of standing water, a leak, or any other weather-related issue in your residence hall. Stay away from flooded areas.

Power failure can disrupt work and study activities. To minimize this disruption, keep your devices charged and use a surge protector on your computer. If there is a power outage, facilities will work with the appropriate agencies to have power restored as quickly as possible. To minimize damage to your computer and other devices, unplug them during a power outage. Residence hall staff have emergency flashlights and contingency plans for extended power outages. Do not use candles or any other open flames in place of electricity.

Updates from the National Weather Service can be found here: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/pit/.

We will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates on the home page. In the event of a campus emergency, information will be communicated via text message. Protection Services is available as usual at X6032.
