ORSTEIN CAPS CAREER WITH EIGHTH NATIONAL TITLE (3/15/08)

OXFORD, Ohio - Washington & Jefferson College senior Kaitlyn Orstein (Mt. Lebanon, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) capped a remarkable career with her eighth NCAA Division III national swimming championship on Saturday.

Orstein successfully defended her 200 breaststroke title in a school-record time of 2:16.29.  She won the title by more than two full seconds over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps freshman Anni Perrizolo, who finished in 2:18.31.

"I told myself that I wasn't going to lose the last race of my career," said the 14-time NCAA All-American.  "I'm probably happier than I've ever been, going out on a high note like this."

Orstein earned a clean sweep at the national championships after winning the 200 IM on Thursday and the 100 breaststroke last night.  She finishes her career with three 200 IM national titles, two 400 IM and 200 breastroke crowns and one 100 breaststroke championship.

"It hasn't really sunk in yet," she added.  "It is so nice to accomplish this here in front of my parents. I always look for them first after wins like this."

"What a show," exclaimed Orstein's father and head coach, Mike Orstein.  "To win three national championships on this stage is extremely difficult.  It takes a special individual and Kaitlyn proved once again that she is a true warrior in every sense of the word."
