Class of 2006

Intriguing Internship from the Class of 2006:

Bonnie McGill
Major: General Biology
Current Situation:  Research Assistant/Lab Technician at Clemson University, SC
Internship:  National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates at the Flathead Lake Biological Station, the University of Montana

"Huckleberries, algae, glaciers, grizzly bears, PVC pipe, and spectrophotometers: all part of my
summer in Montana. As an intern at the FLBS, I worked intimately with my advisors, Dr. Ric
Hauer (University of Montana), Dr. Emily Bernhardt (Duke University), and Brian Reid (graduate
student of the University of Montana), to develop a study for me to carry out over the summer. I
also worked as Brian's field assistant. The field studies were carried out at the Nyack Floodplain
along the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, which forms the southwestern boundary of Glacier
National Park. This internship enabled me to meet several great scientists, gain exposure to
new areas of research, get more experience with field studies, make great friends, and do some
awesome backpacking."
