Assistant Director of International and Multicultural Student Services
Washington & Jefferson College is seeking an Assistant Director of International and Multicultural Student Services. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Life, the Assistant Director will provide administrative and support services to help international and multicultural students transition and thrive at Washington & Jefferson College. As a member of the Division of Student Life, the Assistant Director is responsible for the institution’s compliance with federal immigration laws and policies, co-advising multicultural student organizations, and co-coordinating cultural heritage month programming. Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills are highly desired.
The Assistant Director will: provide leadership in developing programs and materials to help facilitate the cultural, academic and social adjustment of international and multicultural students; implement guidelines to assure compliance with federal Immigration rules, policies and regulations to insure compliance for all international students; conduct orientation sessions for new international students, including: campus tours, campus resource information sessions, F-1 visa advising and personal support; develop educational materials and activities to educate international students in regard to immigration issues and their requirements for maintenance of status.
Acquire, submit and maintain information required by the Student and Exchange Visitors Information System (SEVIS) in a timely manner; assist with coordinating cross-cultural programming and trainings to promote campus-wide awareness and appreciation for diversity and multiculturalism; cultivate relationships with faculty and staff in order to provide enhanced support services for international and multicultural students; mentor and serve in an advisory capacity for multicultural student organizations; work with multicultural student organizations to coordinate campus-wide cultural heritage month programming and activities; and, assist faculty, staff and visiting scholars with visa-related matters concerning international travel and research.
Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field. A minimum of 2 years relevant experience working with immigration advising and multicultural/international student support. Ability to serve as the Primary Designated School Official and Responsible Officer for the College. Familiarity with US immigration laws and regulations, including the US Citizenship and Immigration Services. Knowledge of SEVIS and the rules and regulations. Experience with the administration of international student visa processing, especially with the F-1 visa classification status.
