Database Administrator

Washington & Jefferson College seeks qualified applicants for the position of Database Administrator. BA/BS degree is required.

Position responsibilities include the following:

Provide database, software, and functional support for the end-users in administrative offices. The College currently uses Colleague by Ellucian as our campus-wide ERP system.

Attend relevant technical training classes and meetings which may involve occasional out of town travel.  Support the Ellucian Colleague system to include WebAdvisor, UI 4.x and Unidata on Windows servers, along with other ITS team members, and work as part of the team toward a successful migration from Unidata to SQL.  Provide continuing support for Colleague on the SQL platform. 

Communicate openly and otherwise work effectively as a team member with other Information and Technology Services employees, and with end-users having various levels of computer sophistication. Demonstrate an orientation toward initiating and maintaining open communication.

Analyze end-user departmental reporting and data maintenance requirements with the end goal of being able to assist those departments to maximize their use of the Colleague system.  In conjunction with other team members, develop project plans and schedules related to upgrades, implementations, migrations, and training.

Conduct occasional training for campus Colleague end-users. Perform software upgrades after normal working hours, and be available from time-to-time for emergency and off-hour work. Perform other duties as assigned by the administrative systems manager.

A successful candidate should have:
• three or more years of maintaining Colleague software,
• a BA/BS degree in a relevant area,
• a strong database background with a working knowledge of SQL and data security,
• the ability to work with and train end-users at varying skill levels,
• a working knowledge of a higher education environment, and
• excellent written and oral communication skills.
