Cayla Grodotzke Earns ECAC Women’s Lacrosse All-Star Award

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College senior defender Cayla Grodotzke (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) earned a spot on the 2012 ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Women’s Lacrosse All-Star Team on Tuesday.  Grodotzke, the 2011 ECAC Metro/South Defender of the Year, was awarded second-team status.

The four-time Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-West Region selection led the Presidents (13-4) to their third consecutive appearance in the ECAC Tournament semifinals this spring.

For a third-straight year, Grodotzke ranked among the nation’s top defenders.  She finished 36th in NCAA Division III with 2.06 caused turnovers per game after ranking 12th in the same category last year and 17th as a sophomore.

Grodotzke started all 17 games this spring, recording 40 draw controls, 38 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls. Grodotzke led a W&J defense that concluded the year with the nation’s 11th-best scoring defense (7.53 gpg).

She played in all 66 games over the past four seasons and produced 22 goals, 155 ground balls, 146 caused turnovers and 138 draw controls.  W&J held a 47-19 record with Grodotzke as the leader on defense.
