Cayla Grodotzke Selected To All-West Region First Team
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College senior defender Cayla Grodotzke (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) earned Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-West Regional first-team honors on Friday.
Grodotzke was an all-region performer for the fourth-straight year, including three consecutive first-team awards, after helping lead the Presidents (13-4) to their third consecutive appearance in the ECAC Division III Tournament semifinals.
The 2011 ECAC Division III Metro/South Defensive Player of the Year started all 17 games this spring, recording 40 draw controls, 38 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls. Grodotzke led a W&J defense that finished 11th in the nation in scoring defense (7.53 gpg). She ranked 35th in NCAA Division III in caused turnovers per game (2.06) after finishing 13th in the nation in the same category a year ago.
During her four-year career, she produced 22 goals, along with 155 ground balls, 146 caused turnovers and 138 draw controls. She started all 66 games for the Presidents over the past four seasons. In 2010, she was selected to the Womenslacrosse.com Third Team All-America squad.
