The departments within the social science division at Washington & Jefferson College are committed to the principle that the ideal preparation for one's life and career includes an optimal combination of a liberal arts education and concentrated study in a single discipline. The primary mission of the social sience dvision is to provide a quality education in the social sciences. Such an education includes the acquisition of essential knowledge in each discipline and the demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize information and communicate it effectively to others. As teacher, mentor, advisor, and researcher, each faculty member strives to create in students the aptitude to continue learning beyond the classroom.
