At Washington & Jefferson College, students are provided abundant opportunities to participate in social, extracurricular, and cultural activities. Additionally, the offices and departments within the Division of Student Life coordinate a variety of services, programs, and events to help W&J students adjust to campus life, get involved on campus and in local communities, learn about themselves and others, and begin to explore careers and prepare for life after college.
Approximately 80 percent of W&J students become involved in at least one club. Active student organizations include the Dance Team, Equestrian Team, Gay Straight Alliance, International Club, Mock Trial, The Red & Black (student newspaper), Student Theatre Company and WNJR (student radio station). There are six national fraternities and four national sororities at W&J, with approximately 35 percent of the student body being involved in the Greek system.
The annual Fall and Spring Concerts, Greek Week, and Homecoming are popular annual events. Recent concerts have included N.E.R.D., Recycled Percussion, and Girl Talk. Students also enjoy off-campus offerings, such as trips to Pittsburgh Cultural Trust events, historic Gettysburg, as well as weekend trips to New York City.
In addition to these activities and events coordinated by the Division of Student Life, Washington & Jefferson College hosts several ongoing lectures and arts series which feature presentations by political leaders, scientists, artists, performers, and international scholars. Additionally, music and theatre groups provide entertainment and cultural events through concerts and plays at the Olin Fine Arts Center.
