NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster College swept Washington & Jefferson College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference swimming and diving dual meet on Wednesday evening.
The Lady Titans recorded a 170-127 victory to snap a three-year losing streak to the Presidents (3-1, 0-1 PAC). The Titan men notched a 176-118 triumph.
The Washington & Jefferson women were led by sophomore Katie Steider's (Cochranton, Pa./Meadville) two victories. Steider helped the 400 freestyle relay squad earn a victory in the meet's final race (3:45.96) and also claimed the 100 backstroke (1:02.08).
Sophomore Bethany Haver (Akron, Ohio/Harvey S. Firestone) was victorious in both diving events. She posted 216.10 points in the 1-meter event and then racked up 224.70 points on the 3-meter board. Freshman Katlin Dagg (Mentor, Ohio/Hawken) also won the 200 butterfly (2:16.58).
Sophomore Brandon Smith (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and freshman John Szott (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) {above} notched the lone men's victories. Smith touched first in the 200 IM (2:03.59), while Szott earned the top spot on the 1-meter diving board with 189.70 points.
Washington & Jefferson returns to action Saturday at the Kenyon College Quad Meet.

W&J SWIMMING & DIVING CONTINUES HOT START (11/14)
BEREA, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson College swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet from Baldwin-Wallace College on Saturday afternoon. The W&J men (2-0) recorded a 175-125 triumph, while the Presidents’ women (3-0) posted a 134-103 win.
Junior Brandon Smith (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) won three events for the Washington & Jefferson men, while sophomores C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), Katie Steider (Cochranton, Pa./Meadville) and Brittany Vogel (Butler, Pa./Butler) all won three events for the second-straight meet for the women’s squad.
Smith touched first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.89), 200 backstroke (2:05.84) and 400 IM (4:30.45).
Vogel and Corcoran led the 400 medley relay team to an opening victory in a time of 4:16.50 and then won the 200 freestyle (2:01.12) and 400 IM (4:45.95). Corcoran also claimed the 50 freestyle (25.84) and 100 butterfly (1:02.59).
Steider posted wins in the 100 (1:02.78) and 200 (2:19.25) backstroke events before helping the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.49) to a victory in the final race.
Freshman Patrick O’Toole (Butler, Pa./Fox Chapel) {above} notched first-place showings in the 500 (5:10.82) and 1000 (10:44.24) freestyles, while classmate Katlin Dagg (Mentor, Ohio/Hawken) added two wins for the women’s team. Dagg racked up victories in the 200 butterfly (2:20.55) and 500 freestyle (5:34.44).
Both squads return to the pool on Wednesday for a dual meet at PAC-rival Westminster (6:00 pm) in New Wilmington, Pa.

PRESIDENTS OPEN 2009-10 CAMPAIGN WITH SWEEP OF FROSTBURG STATE (11/4)
FROSTBURG, Md. -- Junior Brandon Smith (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) won three events, including swimming a leg on the opening 200-meter medley win, to lead Washington & Jefferson's sweep of Frostburg State on Wednesday evening. The W&J men garnered a 116-80 victory, while the women's team posted a 106-86 triumph.
Smith helped the 200 medley team win in a time of 1:55.93 and then racked up individual victories in the 100-meter backstroke (1:05.07) and 200-meter IM (2:19.54).
Sophomore Keyton Kalakewich (Monongahela, Pa./Charleroi) also notched three wins. He swam a leg on the 200-meter freestyle relay (1:42.80) after touching first in the 50 (25.20) and 100 (57.65) freestyles.
The Washington & Jefferson women were led by junior Chrissy Brant (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) and sophomores C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and Katie Steider (Cochranton, Pa./Meadville), who all notched a pair of wins.
Brant and Corcoran teamed for a 200 freestyle relay victory (1:57.40), while Brant took top honors in the 100-meter backstroke (1:12.67) and Corcoran touched first in the 50-meter freestyle (28.36). Steider opened the meet on the first leg of the 200 medley relay win and then claimed the 100-meter freestyle (1:02.70).
Freshman Patrick O'Toole (Butler, Pa./Fox Chapel) had a strong first collegiate meet for the men's squad as he earned first place in the 400 (4:29.07) and 800 (9:23.40) meter freestyles.
The Washington & Jefferson women open their home schedule next Wednesday when hosting Chatham in a PAC meet at 6:00 pm. The men return to action on Nov. 14th at the Baldwin-Wallace dual meet (1:00 pm).
