BRITTANY VOGEL NAMED CSCAA SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICAN (7/7)

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- For the second consecutive year, Washington & Jefferson sophomore Brittany Vogel (Butler, Pa./Butler) has been selected to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Individual/Honorable Mention Division III Scholar All-America Team. 

In addition, Vogel helped W&J earn the Team Scholar All-America award for the fourth consecutive season.  W&J’s 22-member squad combined for a 3.08 grade-point average. 

To earn individual recognition, a swimmer must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.50 and record a national championship provisional-qualifying time. 

Vogel earned the award after posting a NCAA “B” Cut qualifying standard in the 200 IM (2:10.74) at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships.  She owns a 3.78 cumulative GPA as a chemistry major. 

Two days after recording her NCAA provisional 200 IM time, Vogel won the conference championship in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:09.28. 

Vogel is a two-time First Team All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference.  She has finished among the top three place winners nine different times at the PAC Championships during her first two seasons. 

This past winter, Vogel was honored as the PAC Swimmer of the Week on November 16 after leading the Presidents to victories over Chatham and Baldwin-Wallace.  She won three events during both meets.   

The women’s swimming and diving program, led by Head Coach Mike Orstein, has recorded 19 consecutive winning dual-meet seasons, including an 8-4 mark this winter.  Since the 2004-05 season, Washington & Jefferson has posted a 78-12 dual-meet record (.867). 

In 26 years of coaching collegiate swimming and diving, Orstein has amassed 426 dual meet victories, including a 366-150 record (.709) at W&J in 22 seasons.
