PRESIDENTS CONTINUE SPRING SEASON AT ALLEGHENY (5/14)
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College track & field teams continued their spring schedules on Friday at the Fourth Annual Allegheny College Gator Invitational at Frank B. Fuhrer Field. The meet was unscored.
W&J was led by junior Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks), who performed well after posting a pair of PAC titles two weeks ago. Wuenstel claimed second place in the 200 (25.50) and 400 (57.61) meters. Her 200 time was a personal best.
Classmate Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) {right} claimed third place in the 100-meter hurdles (15.27). During the preliminaries, she notched a personal-best time of 15.23.
The 2010 PAC Champion men's squad was led by junior Andrew Howard's (Moon Twp, Pa./Moon) third-place showing in the 10,000 meters (35:16.72).
Sophomore Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) claimed fifth in the triple jump (43'6"), while senior Will Seymour (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) recorded a personal-best time of 2:05.88 in the 800 meters.
Both W&J squads will be back in action this week at the Bridgewater (May 19) and North Central (May 20-21) meets.

W&J WINS FIRST-EVER PAC MEN'S TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP; WOMEN PLACE SIXTH (5/1)
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College won its first-ever Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Championship Saturday at Grove City's Robert E. Thorn Field.
Head Coach Mark FitzPatrick was selected as the PAC Coach of the Year after helping sophomore Josh Buckley (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox) earn his second-straight PAC Field Athlete of the Year award. FitzPatrick also earned the coach honor last season after guiding the Presidents to a second-place finish. In all, FitzPatrick has been selected as the PAC Track & Field or Cross Country Coach of the year five times in his seven seasons at the college.
The Presidents garnered 165 points to edge out Grove City (147.3 points). Waynesburg placed third with 86 points followed by Thiel (77), Westminster (64.7) and Bethany (48).
The W&J women finished sixth in the standings behind Westminster (173), Waynesburg (126), Bethany (85), Grove City (84), Thiel (62) and W&J (53).
Buckley earned the field award after winning the high jump (6'4") and placing second in the long jump (22' 3/4") and triple jump (43'1 3/4"). Sophomore Taylor Hockman (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) won the long jump with a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark of 23'4".
The W&J women were paced by junior Michelle Wuenstel's (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) PAC titles in the 200 (25.93) and 400 (57.51) meters. Sophomore C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) notched second place in the high jump (5'2 1/4") and fourth in the javelin (116'4"), while sophomore Taylor Thompson (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) was second in the triple jump (34'8 1/2").
Sophomore Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) was victorious in the triple jump (32'6 1/2") and 110-meter hurdles (15.75), while taking second place in the 400-meter hurdles (55.69). Freshman Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) won a pair of titles after crossing the finish line first in the 1,500 (4:07.16) and 5,000 meters (16:10.00).
Freshman Benjamin Kopchick (Clarksburg, Pa./Saltsburg) claimed the PAC title in the 10,000 meters after posting a time of 35:48.06. Sophomore Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) collected a second-place showing in the 110-meter hurdles (16.03) and a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (56.40), while classmate Alexander Halferty (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) earned third place in the high jump (5'10") and long jump (20'11 1/4"). Senior Bryan Considder (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) also took third in the shot put (45'5").

PRESIDENTS SET MEET AND STADIUM RECORDS AT PAC SOUTH QUAD (4/21)
BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Washington & Jefferson women claimed third place, while the men took fourth Wednesday at the 2010 Presidents' Athletic Conference South Quad competed at Bethany's Bison Stadium.
Waynesburg won the women's team competition with 209 points and was followed by Bethany (157), W&J (72) and Geneva (68). The Yellow Jackets also captured first place on the men's side with 160 points. Geneva was second with 130, while Bethany (117) and W&J (115) concluded the field.
The W&J women were once again paced by juniors Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks). McElhany set meet and stadium records during her wins in the 100 (15.39) and 400 (1:07.29) hurdles, while Wuenstel accomplished the same records during her 200 (25.89) and 400 (57.77) meter victories.
Sophomore Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) posted the Presidents' best day on the men's side with wins in the 400 hurdles (56.22) and triple jump (43'10 3/4"). He also earned second place in the long jump (20'11 3/4").
Freshman Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) set a meet record in the 800-meter run (2:00.85) and sophomore Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) placed first in the 110-meter hurdles in a meet record time of 15.49. Sophomore Taylor Hockman (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) edged French in the long jump with a meet-record leap of 22'1".
Senior Bryan Considder (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) won the shot put title (46'1 1/4") and freshman Gavin Donathan (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane) was the runner-up (42'7 3/4"). Donathan also claimed third in the discus (138'5").
Sophomore C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) also performed well for the W&J women after garnering second place in the high jump (4'9 3/4") and third place in the javelin (122'6"), while classmate Taylor Thompson (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) earned second place in the triple jump (34'2").
W&J has just over a week to rest for next Saturday's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships which will be hosted by Grove City College.

SCOTT RYAN WINS 1,500 METERS AT ED FRY INVITATIONAL (4/17)
INDIANA, Pa. -- For the second consecutive week, freshman Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) won the 1,500 meters to lead Washington & Jefferson College Saturday at the IUP Ed Fry Track & Field Invitational.
Ryan posted a time of 4:08.10 to win the 1,500 meters. He also topped the 1,500-meter field last Saturday at the CMU Quad.
Sophomores Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) and Josh Buckley (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox) recorded a trio of top-seven finishes.
Buckley tied for second place in the high jump (1.85 meters) and placed third in the triple jump (13.27m) and long jump (6.35m). Wang claimed fourth place in the 110-meter hurdles (15.69), fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (58.27) and seventh in the triple jump (11.97m).
The W&J women were led by juniors Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks). McElhany placed fourth 100-meter hurdles (15.38), while Wunestel took the same spot in the 400 meters (59.56).
Sophomore Taylor Thompson (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) also took seventh place in the triple jump (9.71m) for the Presidents' women.
Freshman Benjamin Kopchick (Clarksburg, Pa./Saltsburg) placed fourth in the 5,000 meters (16:15.16), while senior Bryan Considder (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) garnered a fifth-place showing in the shot put (13.85m).
The Presidents continue their spring schedule Wednesday at the PAC South Quad hosted by Bethany College.

W&J GRABS THIRD AND FOURTH PLACE SHOWINGS AT CMU QUAD (4/10)
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College picked up a third-place men's finish and fourth-place women's showing Saturday at Carnegie Mellon's Quad Meet at Gesling Stadium.
CMU won the women's meet with 170 points. Westminster narrowly missed out on the title with 169 points followed by Penn State-Behrend (152) and W&J (83). Only the team's top two place winners earned points towards the team scores.
Penn-State Behrend won the men's meet with 204 points, while CMU (195.5), W&J (119) and Westminster (116.5) rounded out the standings.
The W&J men were paced by sophomores Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) and Josh Buckley (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox). Wang won the 400-meter hurdles (56.68) and placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.71), while Buckley earned a trio of top-three placements. He took second in the long jump (21'8") and high jump (6' 3/4"), while claiming third in the triple jump (42' 8 1/4").
Freshman Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) also won the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:05.45. He also notched fifth place in the 800 meters (2:01.24). Sophomore Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) finished second behind Wang in the 400-meter hurdles (57.16).
The women were paced by junior juniors Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) and sophomore C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton).
McElhany won the 100-meter hurdles (15.65) and claimed second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.22). She also teamed with Wuenstel to lead the 4x100 meter relay to a second-place finish (51.91).
Wuenstel was a double winner after claiming the 100 (13.38) and 200 (26.81) meter dashes, while Corcoran took top honors in the high jump (4'11") and javelin (117'1"), while also claiming sixth in the discus (96'4").
Senior Bryan Considdder (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) earned second place in the shot put (44'8 3/4"), while freshman Gavin Donathan (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane) finished right behind Considder in third place (43'3"). Donathan also was second in the discus (131'8") and fourth in the hammer throw (115'8").
W&J continues its spring schedule next Saturday at the IUP Ed Fry Invitational.

PRESIDENTS' MEN PLACE SECOND; WOMEN SEVENTH AT 2010 W&J INVITATIONAL (4/3)
WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Washington & Jefferson College men’s track & field team racked up 115 points to earn a second-place finish Saturday at the 2010 W&J Invitational, while the women’s team finished seventh with 54 points.
Carnegie Mellon took first place in the men’s meet with 136 points, followed by W&J, Denison (88), Allegheny (80), Glenville State (73), Waynesburg (63), Bethany (57), Geneva (43), Saint Vincent (22), Wittenberg (19), Slippery Rock (18), West Liberty (16), Grove City (15) and Duquesne (10).
Allegheny and Waynesburg tied for first place in the women’s meet with 112 points each, followed by Carnegie Mellon (96), Cuyahoga Community College (94), Bethany (72), Glenville State (70), W&J, Denison (44), Pitt.-Johnstown (35), West Liberty (19), Seton Hill (18), Geneva (17), Duquesne (4) and Grove City (2).
Junior Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) {pictured} set new meet records in both the 200- and 400- meter dash events. She finished first in the 400 with a time of 57.60, eclipsing her old meet record of 58.86 set in 2008, and broke the record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.79.
Wuenstel also helped lead W&J to victory in the 4x100-meter relay (51.82). Joining Wuenstel on the winning team were junior Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and sophomores C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and Tierney Risley (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia).
Corcoran also placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.45 meters and fourth in the javelin throw with a toss of 32.68 meters. McElhany also posted an individual top-five finish in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in third place with a time of 1:08.51.
Sophomore Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) paced the men’s squad en route to the second-place finish. He edged out classmate Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) for first place in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.58. Wang posted a time of 15.65 in the event.
French also placed second in the triple jump (12.86 meters) and third in the 400-meter hurdles (56.57). He then teamed with sophomores Josh Buckley (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox) and Taylor Hockman (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) and junior Sal Ruggeri (Georgetown, Pa./South Side Beaver) to finish second in the 4x100 meter relay (43.99).
Wang added a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (56.56), while Buckley tallied third-place finishes in both the high jump (1.85 meters) and long jump (6.47 meters). Hockman garnered second-place in the long jump with a leap of 6.62 meters, while sophomore Alexander Halferty (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) earned fifth place with a jump of 6.37 meters.
Halferty added a third-place finish in the triple jump (12.45 meters), while freshman Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) raced to a third-place showing in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:15.58.
Senior Daniel Barringer (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) posted a third-place finish in the javelin throw (49.49 meters), while classmate Bryan Considder (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) took third in the shot put with a toss of 14.21 meters.
Junior Andrew Howard (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) and freshman Ben Kopchick (Clarksburg, Pa./Saltsburg) rounded out W&J’s list of top-five finishers in the 10,000-meter run (36:11.01) and the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:50.42), respectively.
The Presidents return to action next Saturday, traveling to Pittsburgh for the 2010 Carnegie Mellon University Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.

PRESIDENTS COMPETE AT WHEELING JESUIT BILL VAN HORNE INVITATIONAL (3/27)
WHEELING, W.Va. -- Nine Washington & Jefferson College student-athletes participated at the Wheeling Jesuit University Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Although the Presidents competed with short squads, W&J still managed a ninth-place showing of 14 men's squads (20 points) and an 11th-place finish of 17 women's squads (17 points).
Sophomore Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) continued his strong start to the outdoor season with third-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (15.88) and the 400-meter hurdles (56.96). French, who collected a time of 15.82 in the 110-meter hurdle prelims, also notched fifth place in the triple jump (12.66 meters).
The women's squad was led by junior Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan). She placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (15.96) and seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.56). Sophomore C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) also claimed fourth in the high jump (1.50 meters) and fifth in the javelin (35.82 meters).
Sophomore Taylor Hockman (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) rounded out the W&J place winners with a fifth-place showing in the long jump (6.29 meters).
W&J hosts its annual invitational on Saturday at Cameron Stadium. The 15-team meet is scheduled to begin field events at 10:30 am.

CONSIDDER WINS SHOT PUT TITLE AT LYNCHBURG INVITATIONAL (3/20)
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Senior Bryan Considder (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) topped a 35-man field in the shot put to highlight Washington & Jefferson College on Saturday at the Lynchburg College Invitational. No team scoring was kept at the meet.
Considder posted a best throw of 14.89 meters to win the shot put title. His mark qualified him for the ECAC Division III Championships.
The W&J women were led by junior Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) and sophomore C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton). Wuenstel claimed third place in the 400 meters (57.66) and fourth in the 200 meters (26.03). Both of her times qualify her for the ECAC Championships. Corcoran placed third in the javelin (37.22 meters) and also qualified for the ECAC event. Corcoran then placed 10th in the high jump (1.50 m).
The Presidents' women also placed second in the 4x400 meter relay (4:22.40). Wuenstel was joined on the relay by junior Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan), sophomore Tierney Risley (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia) and freshman Brittany Mosi (South Park, Pa./South Park).
McElhany also performed well in the 100-meter hurdles with a fifth-place finish in a ECAC-qualifying time of 15.57.
Sophomore Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) had three top-eight finishes for the men. He took fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.94), seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (58.63) and eighth in the triple jump (12.91 m).
Freshman Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) grabbed fifth place in the 5,000 meters (16:01.98), while classmate Benjamin Kopchick (Clarksburg, Pa./Saltsburg) earned sixth in the 10,000 meters (33:19.60).
Freshman Gavin Donathan (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane) placed seventh in the discus (38.78 m), while senior Daniel Barringer (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) claimed eighth in the javelin (45.79 m). Sophomore Alexander Halferty (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) also posted a seventh-place showing in the high jump (1.80 m).
W&J will compete at the Wheeling Jesuit and Washington and Lee invitationals next Saturday as a tune-up for April 3rd's W&J Invitational at Cameron Stadium.

WUENSTEL RACKS UP TWO WINS AT YORK SPRING OPENER (3/13)
YORK, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's and women's track & field teams began their spring schedules on Saturday at the York College Opener.
W&J had five student-athletes win individual titles at the invitational. Sophomore Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) highlighted the Presidents' afternoon by winning the 110-meter (16.10) and 400-meter (1:00.14) hurdle events and also claiming the triple jump (12.20 m). French completed his day with a fourth-place finish (5.72 m) in the long jump.
Freshman Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) claimed the 1,500 meter title (4:18.70) and notched second place in the 800 meters (2:10.12).
On the women's side, junior Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) was a double winner after crossing the finish line first in the 100 (13.00) and 200 (27.36) meter events.
Classmate Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) notched first place in the 100-meter hurdles (17.88), while sophomore Tierney Risley (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia) grabbed first in the 400-meter hurdles (1:15.03). McElhany, Risley, Wuenstel and freshman Brittany Mosi (South Park, Pa./South Park) teamed up on the 4x100 meter relay which placed second in a time of 53.95.
Freshman Stephanie Mogel (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) was another winner for the Presidents after she topped the javelin field with a mark of 31.31 meters.
Junior Sal Ruggeri (Georgetown, Pa./South Side Beaver) also performed well for the W&J men with a second-place showing in the 200 meters (23.03). Sophomore Taylor Hockman (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) placed third behind Ruggeri in the 200 meters (23.24) and was one spot ahead of French for third place in the long jump (5.73).
Senior Daniel Barringer (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) grabbed third place in the javelin throw (46.41 m).
Both W&J squads will be back in action next Saturday at the Lynchburg Invitational in Virginia.

RYAN SETS SCHOOL RECORD AT MOUNT UNION INVITATIONAL (3/6)
ALLIANCE, Ohio - Washington & Jefferson College freshman Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) set a new school record in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday afternoon at the Mount Union College "Last Chance" Invitational.
Ryan posted a time of 15:53.56 in the 5,000 meters and earned first place in the event.
Sophomore Taylor Hockman (Martinsburg, W. Va./Hedgesville) posted a leap of 21' 3 1/2' to place third in the long jump, while sophomore Josh Buckley (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox) finished fourth in the same event after collecting a season-best jump of 20' 7 1/2".
On the women's side, junior Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) and Kaitlyn Loy (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Park) each recorded third-place finishes in the 400-meter and 5,000-meter runs, respectively.
Wuenstel placed third in the 400-meter race with a season-best time of 59.81, while Loy earned the third-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 22:30.14.
Junior Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) rounded out W&J's individual top five finishers with a fourth-place showing in the 55-meter hurdles (8.71).
The Presidents will open the outdoor portion of their 2010 schedule next Saturday, competing at the York College Spring Opener at 9:00 am.

PRESIDENTS' INDOOR TRACK & FIELD COMPETES AT CAPITAL (2/20)
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson College indoor track & field squads posted eighth and ninth place finishes on Saturday at the 2010 Rick Meindl Last Call hosted by Capital University.
The W&J men grabbed eighth place of 13 teams with 36 points, while the Presidents' women claimed ninth with 25 points. Ohio Northern totaled 179 points to win the women's team championship, while Miami (Ohio) edged ONU by a half-point (122.5-122) to claim the men's title.
Sophomore Taylor Thompson (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) recorded the Presidents' lone individual title after she won the triple jump with a season-bets leap of 33' 7 1/4". Thompson also placed third in the 60-meter hurdles (10.96) after turning in a time of 10.80 during the preliminaries.
Sophomore Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) collected a third-place showing in the long jump (15' 11 1/4"), while junior Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) notched fourth in the 200 meters (25.54).

FRENCH AND RYAN NOTCH TITLES AT WVU INVITATIONAL (2/13)
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Washington & Jefferson College sophomore Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) and freshman Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) both notched first-place finishes Saturday at the West Virginia Indoor Track & Field Invitational.
French topped the field in the triple jump with a top mark of 12.97 meters (42'6 3/4"). He also placed third in the long jump (6.23 meters, 20'5 1/4") and helped the 4x400 meter relay squad earn a third-place showing in a time of 3:44.31. Senior Will Seymour (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), sophomore Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) and freshman Benjamin Kopchick (Clarksburg, Pa./Saltsburg) joined French on the relay.
Ryan earned first place in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:09.63. Wang also claimed third place in the 60-meter hurdles (8.90), while junior Sal Ruggeri (Georgetown, Pa./South Side Beaver) took third in the 200 meters (29.49).
Senior Bryan Considder (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) and sophomore Taylor Hockman (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) grabbed second-place finishes. Considder set a lifetime personal best mark and posted an ECAC-qualifying mark in the shot put (14.64 meters, 48' 1/2"), while Hockman recorded runner-up laurels in the long jump (6.57 meters, 21'6 3/4").
In addition, sophomore Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) competed on Friday night for the W&J women at the Slippery Rock Invitational. She qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 55-meter hurdles during the preliminaries with a time of 9.04 and then placed third in the finals following a time of 9.13.
McElhany also collected a fourth-place finish in the long jump (5.13 meters, 16'10").
W&J returns to action next Saturday with indoor meets at Capital and Kent State.

PRESIDENTS RETURN TO TRACK FOR DENISON LID LIFTER (1/23)
GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson College indoor track & field squads competed for the first time in 2010 Saturday at the unscored Denison University Lid Lifter.
The Presidents were led by junior Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), who won the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.32 seconds. She then placed second in the long jump with a mark of 4.88 meters (16'0 1/4").
McElhany also teamed with sophomore Tierney Risley (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia) and freshmen Alyssa James (Hampstead, N.C./Warrior Run) and Brittany Mosi (South Park, Pa./South Park) to place second in the 4x200 meter relay (2:01.70).
James was the only other female to place among the top three finishers in an event after earning runner-up laurels in the pole vault (2.75 meters, 9'0 1/4").
Senior Bryan Considder (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) was the top finisher for the W&J men after garnering a second-place showing in the shot put at 13.51 meters (44'4").
The Presidents return to action in two weeks (Feb. 6) at the Mount Union Invitational.

W&J OPENS INDOOR TRACK & FIELD SEASON AT THE WVU HOLIDAY CLASSIC (12/5)
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. -- Junior sprinter Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) collected Washington & Jefferson College’s lone first-place victory on Saturday afternoon at the 2009 West Virginia University Indoor Track & Field Holiday Classic in Morgantown. Wuenstel finished first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.62.
The W&J men were led by sophomore Greg French (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East), who notched a pair of top-five finishes, while sophomore Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) also collected a top-five finish for the Red & Black.
Wang and French placed second and fourth, respectively, in the 60 meter high hurdles. Wang finished the race in a time of 8.74 seconds, while French crossed the finish line in 8.93 seconds.
French collected his second top-five finish of the afternoon in the triple jump competition after leaping 12.66 meters in the finals.
W&J’s indoor track & field squads will be off for the next month and a half, before returning to action on January 23rd at the Denison University Lid-Lifter Invitational.
