Washington & Jefferson College believes intercollegiate athletics can be an integral part of the educational process. All students are invited to compete for positions on intercollegiate or intramural teams. W&J is a member of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC), and Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in both men's and women's varsity sports.

Washington & Jefferson College student-athletes and teams achieved outstanding success. The College's varsity teams have won more than 108 Presidents' Athletic Conference championships and 40 athletes were selected as conference MVPs.  More than 300 W&J athletes have been awarded First Team All-Conference recognition, while over 75 received All-American honors and 25 achieved Academic All-American status.

The football team has won 20 of the last 26 PAC Championships and advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs 21 times, including two trips to the NCAA Division III National Championship Game (1992 and 1994 Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowls). In addition to the team's successes, W&J football players received a great deal of individual recognition, including 12 conference MVP awards and 130 First Team All-Conference selections. Since 1980, 42 players were named to the All-American teams and 22 Presidents earn Academic All-America laurels.

Since 2000, the baseball, women's basketball, men's and women's swimming and diving, volleyball, softball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's track and field and men's and women's golf teams have all won conference championships.

Kaitlyn Orstein

Women's varsity sports have been honored with more than a dozen conference MVP selections and six All-Americans in basketball.  Most recently, Kaitlyn Orstein '08 {above} won eight NCAA Division III swimming national championships and set three national records in the process.

The intramural program offers a wide selection of athletics.  Participation is characterized by informality and enthusiasm as close, personal relationships color these events with friendly, traditional rivalries.  Approximately 50 percent of the student body participates in intramurals.

W&J places an emphasis on all of its student-athletes to strive for success on the playing fields, while reaching for even higher standards of success in the classroom.
