Smiths at Family Weekend

Family Weekend 2009 was a success!  If you weren't able to make it, see what you missed by reviewing the highlights of the weekends' schedule. 

Highlights of the Weekends' Schedule:

Friday, November 6:

9 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Parent/Faculty Conferences
Meet professors and visit a class (students are responsible for making arrangements)

10 a.m. and noon  Sibling Tours of Campus - Admission House

3:30 p.m.   Senior Class Ring Ceremony* Rossin Campus Center, Allen Ballroom
During this ceremony, Director of Alumni Relations, Michele Hufnagel '93, will present seniors with their 2010 class ring.

6 p.m.   Parent Reception * Alumni House
Enjoy wine and cheese with other W&J parents, faculty, and staff.  Hosted by the Parents' Council. 

6:30 p.m.  Pittsburgh Pipeline Shuttle - Campus Center Circle

7 p.m.  Jazz Ensemble - The Commons, Ski Lodge
Come enjoy an evening of Jazz by our very own students and the band director, Kyle Simpson.

7 p.m.  Tracy Featherstone and Roscoe Wilson Art Show Opening Reception and Artist Talk - Olin Fine Arts Center
Join faculty, staff, and students in welcoming these fantastic artists.

8:30 p.m.  Pittsburgh Pipeline Shuttle - Campus Center Circle

9 p.m.  Monticello's Coffee House Karaoke Night- The HUB, lower level

Saturday, November 7:

9-10 a.m.  Conversation and Coffee with the President - The Commons, Media Room

10, 11 a.m. and noon  Sibling Tours of Campus - Admission House

10-11 a.m.  Parent/Faculty Continental Breakfast - The Commons, Ski Lodge

11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.  Faculty Presentations - The Howard J. Burnett Center
Visit the Abernathy Field Station - Faculty and students will provide a tour of the Abernathy Field Station.  Vans will leave for the field station promptly at 11:30 a.m. from the Rossin Campus Center Circle.  Space is limited, so please reserve your seat in advance.
First Year Seminar - Learn more about the First Year Seminar and the interesting experiences freshmen students have participatedi n through their FYS classes including discussions on field trips, living/learning communities, and class projects. 

12:30 p.m.  Travel Abroad Panel Discussion - The Howard J. Burnett Center
Learn more about student travel abroad experiences and opportunities.  Current students will share their experiences.   

12:30 p.m.  Legacy Luncheon* - President's House
A special luncheon for students who have W&J alumni parents to share memories of W&J. 

12:30 - 1:15 p.m.  Faculty/Student Presentations - The Howard Burnett Center
Magellan Project - Learn more from faculty and students who can discuss the opportunities for travel abroad and life long learning experiences.
Careers in the Arts - A presentation by faculty and students discussing how to succeed in the world of work with a degree in the Arts from W&J. 

2 p.m.  Ever Fi Financial Literacy Presentation - The Commons, Media Room
This online tutorial is available to all W&J students.  The Ever Fi Financial Literacy program has been featured on The Early Show on CBS. 

2:30 p.m.  Chef Demonstration - The Commons
Come learn a few tricks of the trade from W&J's Executive Chef. 

5 - 6 p.m.  President's Open House for First Year Parents and Students*- President's House

6:30 p.m.  Pittsburgh Pipeline Shuttle - Campus Center Circle

8 p.m.  Monte Carlo Night - The Commons, Ski Lodge
Come out and enjoy the casino-style entertainment, featuring an exciting array of authentic games such as Craps, Blackjack, Roulette, Texas Hold 'em, Let It Ride, and genuine casino slot machines.  Prizes and refreshments!

8:30 p.m.  Pittsburgh Pipeline Shuttle - Campus Center Circle

9 p.m.  Monticello's Coffee House - The Hub, lower level
Select beverages and refreshments offered at our student-run coffee house.

10 p.m.  Late Night Bingo - The Hub, lower level
Free! Fun and Prizes!

3 p.m.  W&J Wind Ensemble - Olin Fine Arts Center
