Poetry Reading by Author, Director of International Poetry Forum, to be Held at W&J October 17

WASHINGTON, PA (October 15, 2013)—Samuel Hazo, the author of numerous books of poetry, fiction, essays and plays, and McAnulty Distinguished Professor of English Emeritus at Duquesne University, where he has taught for 43 years, will host a public poetry reading Thursday, Oct. 17,  at 7:30 p.m. in room 114 of the Howard J. Burnett Center.

Hazo is the founder and director of the International Poetry Forum in Pittsburgh. His books include “Like a Man Gone Mad: Poems in a New Century,” and “The Stroke of a Pen, a Collection of Essays.”

He has received 12 honorary doctorates and was recently honored with the Griffin Award for Creative Writing from the University of Notre Dame, his alma mater. A National Book Award finalist, Hazo was chosen the first state poet of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by Gov. Robert Casey in 1993, and he served until 2003.

The event, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the W&J Humanities Fund, and the W&J English Department, is free and open to the public.
