Corcoran Wins Javelin At Swarthmore; Jumps Into Nation’s Top 10
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College senior C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) won the women’s javelin event at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet on Monday and put herself into position to earn a second-straight appearance at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Corcoran posted a season-best throw of 140’9” which ranks as the ninth-best mark in NCAA Division III this spring. Corcoran, who placed 16th at the national championships last year, was ranked 27th prior to the meet. The top 22 in the rankings after this week will earn spots in the NCAA championship field.
W&J also had three other athletes earn top-seven finishes, including senior Greg French (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East), who placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (54.57) and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.79).
Junior Gavin Donathan (Hurricane, W. Va./Hurricane) collected seventh place in the shot put (44’9 1/2”) and 11th place in the discus (136’1”).
On the women’s side, sophomore Harley Straub (Richfield, Pa./Juniata) was the seventh-place finisher in the shot put following a top throw of 34’9 1/2”.
W&J will send at least 12 athletes to the ECAC Championships which begin Thursday in Troy, N.Y.
