The Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division is committed to exploring and understanding the natural world.  Our various disciplines are joined by a common focus on method and the commitment to guide students from all departments in acquiring the techniques for:

• framing a question in empirical terms;

• translating that question into a testable hypothesis;

• gathering the data appropriate to verifying the hypothesis;

• using mathematics as a tool for analyzing and interpreting those results and modeling physical processes;

• reaching a conclusion, based on the evidence, whether or not the hypothesis was supported; and 

• reporting the methods and findings according to current, professional standards.
