NYC Internship: Yale University Research Intern

To Whom it May Concern:

I’m writing to let you know about a Yale University Research Intern position that may be of interest to your psychology students. We are seeking a small cadre of interns who could gain excellent research experience and contribute to the health of young women traditionally vulnerable and underserved.

The Centering Pregnancy Plus Project (CP+) aims to reduce risk for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases and improve health outcomes for young pregnant women, aged 14-21. This is a large translational research study being conducted in collaboration with more than 14 community hospitals and community health centers in New York City that provide prenatal care to underserved women and communities. This randomized controlled trial compares standard individual care with CenteringPregnancy Plus (CP+), an exciting new model of group prenatal care that incorporates HIV/STD prevention education and skill building activities. CP+ has shown positive outcomes in previous research in other communities.

Under the supervision of the Project Field Manager, summer Interns will identify and recruit appropriate patients for the study, interact with health care providers about patient referrals and screen patients to see if they meet study criteria. Our hope is to identify and train interns who could work a minimum of 8 hours per week during the academic year (1 full day or 2 half days).  We have a training session beginning AUG 3 in NY, if you have any interested students currently available.  We will also conduct training in September for additional student interns.

This internship is based in New York City, and fluency in Spanish is required. This is an unpaid internship, but course credit may be available from your college or university (e.g., for independent study, research practicum). To apply, send resume and cover letter to Jessica.Lewis@yale.edu.

Thank you,
