Students majoring in Psychology may seek Teacher Certification for grades 7-12 in Social Sciences (Psychology, Anthropology and Sociology). Psychology Majors may complete the psychology courses as part of their major. Students participating in this program are required to major in either Psychology or Sociology.

EDU 406 and 407 (with permission from the Academic Status Committee)

PSY 101, 102, 215, and 265 (previously 366)

PSY 225 or 235 (previously 301)

SOC 101, 102, 233 (previously 210), 280

SOC 175 (Anthropology)

General Requirements for Certification:

• A minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 overall is required of all students seeking certification.
• Students must apply for entry to the Teacher Certification Program at the end of their sophomore year, or the start of the semester after they realize that they wish to seek certification.
• Students seeking certification must apply to the Committee on the Teaching Profession for permission to Student Teach one year prior to enrolling in EDU 407. EDU 407 (Student Teaching) counts as three courses.
• Students completing the Secondary Certification Program will receive credit for an Education Minor.
• Act 34 Criminal Record Clearance (required annually and will cost the student $10 per year) – Note: Students who have a criminal record are NOT eligible to be certified.
• Act 151 Child Abuse Clearance (required annually and will cost the student $10 per year).
• Negative TB test (required annually while in the program, can be done on campus)
• Passing all the Praxis tests (National Certification tests)
