The Class of 2013 is Leaving Its Mark on W&J
W&J is a college full of tradition. From the sounding of Whichi Coax, to walking over the W&J seal at Commencement, to the strong roots of student philanthropy, W&J prides itself on being a college rich in history and steeped in tradition.
A relatively new tradition to campus is the donation of a Senior Class Gift by each graduating class. The Senior Class Gift program began in 2002 as a way for graduating seniors to leave a lasting and recognizable impact on campus.
The ten graduating classes that have given a Senior Class Gift have left legacies of fountains, benches, sports facility improvements, book fund awards, and recreational equipment. Each class strived to leave the campus better than when they arrived. This year the Class of 2013 has set out to do the same.
What is the Senior Class Gift?
Each fall a group of students are selected to form a Senior Class Committee. This committee serves to represent the class in planning Senior Week events, selecting the Senior Class Gift, and fundraising for the Senior Class Gift. The chosen gift is then announced at the Senior / Trustee Reception held at the end of February. The senior class is then charged with the task of raising enough money to purchase the gift. The gift is dedicated on the Friday before Commencement.
The 2013 Class Gift will a donation to the Tim McNerney Scholarship Fund and a small memorial for Tim in a location that is to be determined.

Why Should I Give?
Each person in the Class of 2013 plays an important role in the success of the class gift. Without the participation of each class member the class gift cannot come into realization. Every year a participation goal is set based on the anticipated number of seniors it will take to raise sufficient funding for the gift. This year the goal is set at 50%. Every gift, no matter the size, counts towards reaching this participation goal, and greatly helps in the establishment of the Senior Class Gift.
Any senior giving $10 or more to the Senior Class Gift will receive an invitation to a private Thank You Reception – featuring a beer tasting – during Senior Week and the first 40 students to donate $10 or more will be eligible for a trip to the opening game of the Pittsburgh Pirates 2012 Season.
By donating to your class gift you will join the ranks of W&J donors who have helped shape this campus. This is your opportunity to leave your legacy on W&J's campus.
