The Economics and Business Department at Washington and Jefferson College is committed to the principle that the ideal preparation for one's life and career includes a proper combination of a liberal arts education and concentrated study in a single discipline. The primary mission of the department is to provide a quality education in the areas of economics, business, and accounting to students at Washington and Jefferson College. Such education includes the acquisition of essential knowledge in each discipline and the demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize information and communicate it effectively to others. As teacher-mentor-advisor, each faculty member strives to create in students the aptitude to continue learning beyond the classroom. Our graduates will possess the knowledge of their discipline and the skills necessary to continue learning throughout their lives. Also, they will have an appreciation for the interrelationships among various areas of knowledge and the ability to make decisions in light of ethical considerations. So equipped, they will have the foundation for becoming informed and productive members of an increasingly complex society.
