Eddie Nogay And Josh Staniscia Named To Academic All-District Team
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College sophomore baseball players Eddie Nogay (Weirton, W. Va./Madonna) and Josh Staniscia (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) were selected to the Capital One/CoSIDA NCAA Division III Academic All-District First Team on Thursday.
Nogay and Staniscia are two of 12 players named to the District 4 team, which is made up of all NCAA Division III baseball programs in Pennsylvania. The pair are now automatically nominated for Academic All-America honors along with all other first-team selections from the additional seven regions around the country.
Nogay has earned a 3.50 grade point average as an English major. He owns a 5-0 record and 1.95 earned run average in 11 appearances (seven starts) on the mound this spring. Nogay has allowed just 11 earned runs in 50.2 innings, while striking out 31 and leads the team with three saves.
Staniscia owns a 3.59 GPA and is a biochemistry major. He is batting .424 and is tied for first on the team with 53 hits, including a team-high 16 for extra bases. Staniscia has scored 38 runs and knocked in 35, while stealing nine bases.
Including Nogay and Staniscia, seven Washington & Jefferson student-athletes have now earned Academic All-District recognition during the 2011-12 academic year.
Also representing the Presidents’ Athletic Conference on the District 4 baseball squad were Brad Burkhardt and Mike Hustava of Saint Vincent and Thiel’s Phil Double.
No. 18 W&J (30-6, 18-3) has clinched first place in the PAC standings heading into its final league series of the spring against Thomas More, which begins Saturday at Ross Memorial Park (1:00 pm). The Presidents will be the hosts for next week’s conference tournament (May 10-12).
