What classes can I take at the ELI?
The ELI has two components: Special Summer programs and Semester-Based programs.
1. International Summer Course (Start dates vary)
The International Summer Course aims to develop a range of learning skills, including reading, writing, grammar, speaking and quantitative analysis, while introducing international students to American culture and the specific norms of North American higher education. Special emphasis will be placed on academic skills required for higher education, including paper writing, research methods, and critical analysis.
2. Intensive English Courses (Start date for Fall 2014 is Aug. 31)
Intensive English Courses, offered concurrently with the regular academic, create an immersion-style English language curriculum that is standards based and heavily focused on linguistic skills and cultural knowledge. This course is designed for students who are below the minimum matriculation guidelines for English language proficiency. Students who have satisfactorily completed the course of study will have the skills and proficiency needed to matriculate as regular degree-seeking students.
