To welcome students back to campus and the Washington community, Washington & Jefferson College and the Main Street Farmers Market will host a W&J Student Day during the first week of classes.
The first 200 students who arrived received a voucher to use at any of the 30 vendor stands, which sell products ranging from vegetables, fruits, chicken, bread, shaved ice, jewelry and soaps. The event was organized by faculty, staff and community members.
The College is a sponsor of the Market and faculty members and students volunteer throughout the course of the the market, which is held every Thursday from 3:30-6:30 p.m. until the end of October.
The Farmers Market, located in the parking lot across the street from the Observer-Reporter, a block away from City Hall, is comprised of small farmers and businesses in the community. Each week, the event features a local non-profit organization, live entertainment from local musicians, and activities promoting nutrition and the environment.
