In addition to German language, literature, and culture, Dr. Shaughnessy has a professional interest in educational technology. He is particularly interested in the perception of technology within education and the role it plays within the humanities. He has published a CD-ROM for introductory German, is currently editor of a CD-ROM series for German-American studies, and has given lectures on the subject of educational technology. His latest projects involves a multi-media approach to German lyric poetry and the authenticity of multimedia imagery. Dr. Shaughnessy is also the chief editor of the German section of the REALIA project.  In April 2007, his book German Pittsburgh (Arcadia Publishing) comes out highlighting the contributions of German speaking immigrants to our area.

Dr. Moser joins the faculty at W&J after teaching German language, literature, and culture at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2004-2006). He specializes in all things Austrian (culture, literature, history, etc.). He wrote his dissertation on Thomas Bernhard, Austria’s most dominant literary and public figure in the postwar era, and co-organized a large conference on the topic of “Austrian Writers Confront the Past” (http://www.malca.org/conf/2002.html) at U. Penn in 2002. His interests also include Contemporary German and Austrian Jewish literature and culture, German language Holocaust literature, as well as German and Austrian Film. He is a member of the German Studies Association (http://www.thegsa.org) and the Modern Austrian Literature and Culture Association (http://www.malca.org) and regularly presents papers at the annual conventions of these organizations.

Mrs. Altmeyer is a PA-certified teacher of German K-12.  Her interests include everyday life in Germany, East Germany past, present, and future, and the use of film, music, and children’s literature as a tool in undergraduate German courses.  She has taught students of ages 5 to 70 years in German, Spanish, and ESL.  She is very active in the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of AATG.  She was recently awarded a stipend by Goethe Institute in summer 2003 to attend a course for German teachers in Göttingen.

Kristen is returning to W&J after graduating in 2001 and then teaching in the W&J German program for the 2004-5 academic year.  She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at Ohio State where her dissertation will focus on the contrasting images of sickness and health throughout 20th century German literature.  Kristen's other interests include East German life and literature, fairy tales, music in literature, and second language acquisition.

Seth Quartey earned his PhD in Germanic Literatures and Languages from the University of Michigan, 2004. In August 2004- December2005, he was Lecturer of German, Bowling Green State University. His teaching and research interests lie in the fields of nineteenth and early twentieth century German literature, Comparative Literature, German Colonialism, Contemporary German Culture, Post-colonial studies, Sociology, Business German and Culture.
