German Intersession Excursions from  W&J College

Since 1997, seventy-eight W&J students have taken a course in Germany during the Intersession term.

The backbone of the course is always cultural immersion for the W&J participants. Whether enrolled in a language school in Freiburg,Remnants of divided Berlin near Checkpoint Charlie examining the nature of culture in Austria, or traveling across the country with backpacks, students will not only experience, but will also live the culture of German-speaking countries.

Students will gain a deep understanding of the culture and will get an opportunity to practice what they learn in class. Students will use German daily and will return home with a memorable educational experience.

Please contact Dr. Shaughnessy if you may be interested in a German Intersession Course during your four years at W&J.

Frequently asked questions about Intersession in Germany:

How much does it cost!?Matt, Amanda, Ben, Jodie, and Seth in Bonn

The cost of the 24-day trip ranges from approximately $2600 to 2800, depending on exchange rates. This covers EVERYTHING: airfare, hotels, local transportation, admission to all museums, and a daily meal allowance. In theory, one could leave the USA with no extra money at all and still live comfortably.

What if I don't speak German (well) ?

Kein Problem! Knowledge of German is not always a prerequisite for this course.

1998 Intersession in BerlinDoes the course count towards general education?

It can. German intersession courses have satisfied humanities, diversity, and even a PE requirement.

Does it count toward my concentration in German?

Natürlich! The course counts toward an academic major or minor in German. Students with a background in German are expected to do a large portion of the course work in German.

What is my grade based on?

Grades are based on participation in a variety of cultural exercises and coursework, depending on the nature of the course.
