Resident Assistants (RA) play an important role in our residential communities. If selected as an RA, you will serve as a resource and reference point to your fellow students, support a safe, fun, and diverse community, and uphold community standards. Among the most important functions of the RA is building a community in the residence halls. You will do so through the development and promotion of campus programming and athletic events and by creating meaningful relationships with your student-residents.
Resident Assistant Minimum Qualifications
Must possess and maintain a semester and cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
Must be a full time student for both the Fall and Spring semesters. For those studying abroad, applications will be considered, depending on applicant pool. Must remain in good disciplinary standing during the term of employment. Must be capable of being a positive representative of the Office of Residence Life, Student Life, and Washington & Jefferson College. Student Activities Involvement & Leadership:
The Washington & Jefferson College Student Government (SGA) exists to promote standards of student freedom and maturity and to promote interests of the student body. It is organized to give guidance and support to all student organizations, and accordingly allocates Student Activity funds. Each class elects ten students to act as representatives in the governing body. All first-year students interested in running for class representatives may pick-up petition forms in The Hub, beginning Thursday, Sept. 5th. Online elections will be held on Tuesday, September 17th.The first Student Government General Assembly meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19th at 7pm in Old Main chapel. Meetings are held every two weeks throughout the academic year with the exception of Intersession.
The SGA executive board elections are held each year in March. All candidates for President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary must be full-time students who have successfully completed eight course at W&J College.
The Student Activities Board is the largest student programming organization on campus, and is responsible for many of the great weekend events on the calendar! They also Monticello's, a volunteer coffeehouse. In Monti's they regularly host karaoke and acoustic musicians, and there's always free food and milkshakes! The SAB hosts a variety of big events on campus including Big Bingo, FallFest, drive-in movies, and more! They hold their annual Street Fair in May – it's an end of the year celebration for the whole campus. If you want to get off campus, they have something for you, too. We’ve sponsored skiing trips, ice skating excursions, and paintball trips (among many others!). We’ve even gone to New York City and Chicago!
Membership in the SAB is open to any current student, and we always welcome new ideas! In Spring 2014 the SAB will hold elections for their President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and other leadership positions.
There are numerous ways in which W&J students can get involved in community service and philanthropic efforts outside of our national service and service organization opportunities. Students may looking for opportunities that fit with their schedule, or may only be able to volunteer on occasion. There are many options for students to get involved in our one time events and programs! You can visit the Volunteer Services office (located in the HUB) or their webpage to learn about our larger events, you can see our Calendar of Events for individual opportunities coming soon, or you can just click VOLUNTEER NOW! and fill out our General Volunteer Interest Form to tell us more about how you would like to serve
