Policies

Transfer Credit - It is possible to earn course credit by transferring work completed at another college or university to Washington & Jefferson College. No more than 16 of the 32 required semester courses required for the bachelor of arts degree may be transfer courses, and no more than three may be applied towards the major.

If you’ve taken coursework at another institution and wish to receive credit at W&J, you will need to request an official transcript from the institution and have it sent to:

Washington & Jefferson College
Office of the Registrar

Washington, PA 15301

If you earned a grade equivalent to a C- or better you may be eligible to receive credit at W&J, subject to existing regulations covering such courses. Please refer to the college catalog for additional information.

Advanced Placement (AP) - Students who take Advanced Placement (AP) exams should request that their scores be sent to the College in care of the Office of the Registrar. A minimum score of 4 is necessary for any consideration of credit or placement to be given. If approved by the appropriate academic departmental chairperson and vice president for academic affairs, credit and/or advanced placement toward graduation will be awarded.

If you did not designate W&J on your AP exam answer sheet, you will need to contact the College Board to request that your score be sent to:

Washington & Jefferson College
Office of the Registrar
60 South Lincoln Street
Washington, PA 15301

AP Score Reports are sent in July to colleges and the reports are cumulative and include scores for all the AP Exams you have ever taken, unless you have requested that one or more scores be withheld.

International Baccalaureate (IB) - Course credit will be granted for each higher level (HL) IB course with an exam score of 5 or higher. A department chair, program director or academic dean will determine whether a course counts as an elective or toward a specific requirement (minor, major or general education). Students who have completed the entire IB Diploma Programme can earn credit for up to 8 courses toward graduation at W&J. The official International Baccalaureate transcript is required to award credit. The official transcript should be sent to:
