Information for Degree-Seeking International Students

The Office of Global Education is delighted to welcome you to Washington & Jefferson College! We are so pleased that you have selected W&J for your undergraduate education, and look forward to having you join our campus community.

The Office of Global Education provides support to all of our international students (both degree-seeking students like you, and visiting students who come to W&J for one or two semesters), particularly through immigration advising, airport pickup at the beginning of the semester, and an international student orientation. For more information about our international student services, please visit that section of our office website.

Although you will need to complete the same processes and forms as all other first-year students, there are a few areas that are particular to international students. Please review the information below, and complete the relevant documents. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us at GlobalEd@washjeff.edu.

  • Immigration: Unless you are a United States citizen (including dual citizenship with another country) or US resident alien, you will need to obtain an F-1 visa in your home country before coming to W&J. In order to apply for your F-1 visa, you will need an I-20 form, which the Office of Global Education will issue to you. Please complete and submit the I-20 request form to facilitate the processing of this important document. (US citizens/resident aliens do not need to apply for an F-1 visa, and do not need to complete this form.)
  • Linens: To save time - and room in your luggage - you may wish to take advantage of our linens purchasing service, so that bedding and bath towels will be waiting in your room for you upon your arrival at W&J. Please complete the linens form by June 15, 2013, to indicate whether or not you would like to use this service. Please note: If we do not receive a linens form from you by the deadline, we will assume that you do not wish to use this service, and will not order linens on your behalf.
  • Airport pick-up: We recommend that all international students arrive on campus on one of our two designated international student arrival dates: Monday, August 26, or Tuesday, August 27, 2013. If you arrive on one of these two dates and submit the arrival information form by August 9, the Office of Global Education will arrange to pick you up at Pittsburgh International Airport, and take you to your dormitory on campus. Please note: If you arrive prior to the designated arrival dates, you will be responsible for arranging your own accommodation and transportation to campus.
  • Orientation dates: The Office of Global Education will host international student orientation on Wednesday, August 28, and Thursday, August 29 - please plan to attend! Orientation is a wonderful opportunity to meet other international students, and we cover a range of academic and cultural topics that will help you as you transition to W&J. First-year students will then attend LAUNCH III on Thursday afternoon, and join other incoming students for New Student Orientation beginning on Friday.
