Club & Intramural Sports

Overview

The mission of the Intramurals Sports program is to promote health and wellness, social interaction, fun, and peace of mind.  These aspects play and important part in the lives of all people, especially in a student’s development.  In addition to the benefit of physical fitness, we hope that a participant’s involvement enhances their diverse educational experience by the permanent development of a holistic lifestyle through leisure activities.  Through active participation in our programs, you will gain effective communication and leadership skills, positive self-esteem, and overall personal growth, not to mention the added bonus of meeting new friends!

The aim of the Intramural program is to provide an opportunity for every student to participate in some form of competitive sports acvtivity, time permitting, suitable to their ability by establishing fun and inviting playing environments for all skill levels. Various leagues and tournaments are offered to the entire College community each year. Whether you are looking for an enjoyable way to spend your leisure time, improve your physical fitness, meet new friends, gain valuable work experience or leadership skills, we have something for you.

We offer a wide range of sports for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Leagues, tournaments, and special events are offered year-round. Whether you are a sports-enthusiast, a beginner learning to play a new sport for the first time, or somewhere in-between- there's certainly something for you!

Are you interested in participating but don't have a team? Here are a few suggestions on how to get involved: 1) Talk to your neighbors, classmates, or friends and create your own team. 2) Register online as a 'Free Agent'. 3) Email the Assistant Director of Intramural and Club Sports to help spread the word.

Spirit of Competition

The goal of our program of the Washington and Jefferson College Intramurals Program is to promote the
development of life-long skills through the venue of sports that offers meaning beyond that of a win or a
loss.   Teams, captains, participants, and staff are expected to conduct themselves appropriately to maintain the highest level of sportsmanship.  The success of our program depends on the cooperation of many
individuals adhering to a consistent set of values:

  • Gaining an understanding and appreciation for the rules of the game
  • Exercising representative behavior at all times
  • Recognizing and appreciating skilled performance regardless of affiliation
  • Exhibiting respect for opponents, sport officials, and program staff
  • Displaying pride in your actions at every opportunity
