In 2002, Ms. Yap was offered a full scholarship to pursue her musical studies in the United States of America. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s from West Virginia University (WVU) and now she is a Doctorate candidate of Music in Piano Performance.

She was awarded graduate assistantships from WVU, which afforded her the opportunity to teach class piano to non-keyboard undergraduate/graduate music majors, as well as applied lessons to undergraduate piano majors. Besides teaching, she also assisted the WVU Choral Union, and provided piano accompaniment for music majors that lead her to work with renowned musicians: Grant Cooper, Dr. Manabu Takasawa, Christopher Wu, Dr. Scott Beard, Hong-Guang Jia, Maggie Snyder, and Dr. Lucy Mauro.

She was on the President’s List (2002 and 2004) for her outstanding achievements in academic studies, and was also the recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Scholarship (2002 and 2004), the recipient of Creative Arts Center Award (2002), and the recipient of North-Sumatra High-Scorer, Associated Board of Royal School of Music (ABRSM), London, 1997.

Juliana Yap currently serves as a piano/theory senior faculty at the WVU-Community Music Program. She participated in the piano fellowship at International Performing Arts Institute, German in July 2010 and performed at the Steinway-Haus Munich-Rubinstein Hall, Munich.
