Magellan Project Description:
I worked with CERT International (Christian Emergency Relief Teams) on a medical mission in the Amazon Rainforest of southern Peru. Traveling more than two days up the Madre de Dios River in a motorized canoe, we opened free medical and dental clinics in remote villages deep in the jungle and served nearly 500 patients. Afterwards, I spent an additional week exploring the cultural city of Cusco and learning about its rich Incan history by visiting museums, ruins, a planetarium and Machu Picchu, coincidentally during the elaborate celebrations for its 100th anniversary of discovery!
How will your Magellan Project help with your plans after graduation?
This Magellan Project provided the opportunity for me to participate in an extraordinary way to make a difference in the world, while cultivating my passion for medicine. My trip this summer has opened my eyes to medical mission work and opened my heart to Peru.
