Men's Rugby

The Washington & Jefferson Men's Rugby Club is a Division III sanctioned club affiliated with the Allegheny Rugby Union and USA Rugby.  The traditional ARU sanctioned season runs in the fall while the spring season is made of tournaments and friendlies.  Over the past few seasons, W&J has risen through the ranks of the DIII clubs. In the 2011 spring season, the Presidents posed a 11-1 season.  They also won 2 major Pittsburgh area tournaments.

The club is also very community oriented.  The participate in fall and spring volunteer projects with the Lemoyne Center.  In the summer of 2011, the men put on a Rugby clinic for the Center's summer camp.

Joe Piszczor, a McGuffey native, returns for his second season with the President’s Rugby team in 2011-2012.

During his first year, the men have made huge strides reviving the long standing tradition of President’s Rugby by having many lopsided victories against their opponents last spring.  The season was highlighted when the men won their division at the Pittsburgh Rugby Classic, which is the largest collegiate rugby tournament in the Northeast.  He believes “that good folks make good ruggers and I hope to teach our men that dedication, responsibility, and hard work pay off when you hold yourself as a gentleman.”

Piszczor, a graduate of Mercyhurst College, was involved in Wrestling, Football and Student Government while earning a degree in Business Management. He is still actively involved in the Rugby community and plays competitive rugby for the Pittsburgh Rugby Club at the men’s Division 2 Club Level.

Currently, Piszczor heads a financial planning firm in Washington and serves on three non-profit boards and the Rotary Club in our community including: Literacy Council of SW PA, Lemoyne Center, and a Community Action Southwest advisory council.
