Pettersen publishes article in the American Journal of Physics
Mike Pettersen has published an article in the American Journal of Physics on capillary rise in a cone. You can do the experiment in your kitchen sink with a plastic cone (the tip must be open) and some rubbing alcohol. If the meniscus gets close enough to the tip, capillary forces will make it wick abruptly all the way up to the top. (M. S. Pettersen, E. Rolley and J. Treiner, "Capillary rise and condensation in a cone as an illustration of a spinodal," Am. J. Phys. 79, 831 (2011).)
