The Department of Music prepares students for postgraduate study and careers in music, but also allows students to study music and the arts alongside sciences, humanities, social sciences, and pre-professional programs.

The department is located in Olin Fine Arts Center, which houses a 486-seat theatre, recording studio, rehearsal spaces, and numerous practice rooms, which are accessible to all students. In addition to courses in music appreciation, history, theory and world music, the department offers five music ensembles that are open to students in all majors. Private instrumental and voice lessons are taught by faculty who are active musicians and teachers in the tri-state region.

The Department of Music offers a major, requiring at least 11 courses, and a minor, requiring six. Majors must complete four semesters of the same W&J ensemble and four semesters of applied study in a single area (voice or instrumental).

Additional course information is available in the W&J College Catalog.
