Music majors should work with their adviser to find out when courses are available as some required courses are available only once in a two-year cycle. Senior project proposals must be submitted in writing a semester in advance to the music faculty for approval. Students should keep track of their progress using the checklist below. Senior Minor Capstone
□ Although Minors are not required to take MUS 400 Music Seminar, they must complete a senior capstone project. This project make take many forms—a partial or full recital, a paper and presentation, a portfolio, etc. The type of capstone experience depends on the focus of the student’s music study. The student should work closely with their music faculty advisor to determine what type of capstone would be appropriate and how to design it, submitting a proposal no later than the end of the semester before presenting it. Note that recitals are only an option for students who have completed 4 semesters of private lessons in addition to their ensemble requirement. The capstone project must include elements from 3 out of the 4 areas of music taught at W&J: History, Theory, Applied Music, and World Music.
