W&J Grad Named Head Coach of Miami Dolphins

WASHINGTON, PA (Jan. 21, 2012)—Joe Philbin, Washington & Jefferson College class of 1984, is the new head coach of the National Football League's Miami Dolphins.

W&J can also list among its graduates NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, class of 1981. Philbin was a sociology major who played one year of football at W&J.

"W&J has long been known for producing leaders in a wide variety of fields," Tori Haring-Smith, Ph.D., president of W&J, said. "We congratulate Joe and wish him the best in his new role."
