Conversations with the Ombudsperson are intended to help students understand the processes they must follow in resolving matters related to student conduct or academic honesty, in the hope that the student’s and the College’s needs will be met satisfactorily. In order to provide this help,
The Ombudsperson can:

Provide a listening ear without passing judgment.

Help you to clarify and organize your thoughts, feelings and goals.

Guide you to answers to your questions about policies, requirements or procedures.

Assist you as you determine a strategy for resolving alleged violations of policy.

Suggest options for courses of action for potential conflict resolution.

Attend a hearing with you (with limitations, see the first bulleted item below).
The Ombudsperson cannot:

Adjudicate, arbitrate or otherwise intentionally influence conduct hearings conducted by the College.

Make, change or circumvent College policy.

Conduct or participate in formal investigations.

Provide any form of legal advice, nor participate in legal proceedings on a student’s behalf.

Share information that was obtained during confidential conversations with a student, unless the Ombudsperson believes that the information pertains to a person’s immediate safety.
