Our oldest returning act and a fitting opening to our 30th season is local group The Pittsburgh Banjo Club, which performed here in June 1994 to great accolades. The club is a non-profit organization made up of men and women from all walks of life with a common goal - the encouragement and preservation of the banjo, America’s Native Instrument. Founded on December 15, 1988, by Frank Rossi, The Pittsburgh Banjo Club is dedicated to keeping the music of the Golden Age of the banjo alive. The ensemble includes banjos, trumpets, tubas, and bass playing a program of sing-alongs, vocals, banjo solos, music from the ’20s and ’30s, polkas and Dixieland. The club has donated over $60,000 to local Pittsburgh area charities.

We welcome back our friends, The Gaden Sharste Monastery, who were in residence here in October of 2008. Another Tibetan Monastic group, the Drepung Loosling Monastery was here in 2003. This Tibetan Buddhist Monastic group will be in residence during the week of November 6-11 and will be making a Mandela in our lobby all week and presenting Sacred Dance and Chants of Tibet on Sunday, the 6th at 7:30 pm in our theatre. Gaden Monastery is the original Buddhist monastery of the Gelug traditon of Tibet. The creation of it was prophesized by the Buddha himself 1900 years before its actual founding in 1409 CE. We invite you to explore their website for more information and come visit them. They are very friendly and will answer all questions. All proceeds from their sales and appearance fees go to support the monks in their mission to be of service to the world community by helping to spread peace, harmony, compassion and tolerance through cultural exchange, interfaith dialog, and Buddhist teachings.

MacHomer

Our first experience with Rick Miller and his brilliant performance was during our 2003-2004 season. This one-man vocal spectacular features impressions of over 50 voices from TV’s The Simpsons in a hilarious performance of Shakespeare’s Macbeth! ”With a script that remains 85% Shakespeare, MacHomer will leave you "exhausted with laughter" (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette). Spot-on impressions of characters from the hit series populate this imaginatively staged version of the tragedy, a multi-media update truly “full of sound and fury”. The result is that rare jewel: an educational and entertaining show, which has amazed audiences of all ages, backgrounds and languages.
