Physics Major

Physics attempts to give a description of the natural world, from quarks to quasars, based upon observation and expressed mathematically. The subject typically appeals to students who are curious about how things work. Physics is a practical subject and plays an important role in society through contributions to modern technology. Students of the department have the opportunity to practice physics by doing research. Physics majors will be especially well prepared to continue on to graduate school in the sciences, or to pursue careers in engineering, high-tech industry, medicine, or secondary education.
