Presidents Land 48 Student-Athletes On PAC Spring Honor Roll
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College boasted 48 student-athletes honored on the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll for the Spring 2012 semester. The PAC Academic Honor Roll celebrates student-athletes on winter and spring varsity sports teams who earned a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.6 or higher on a 4.0 scale during their semester of competition.
Coupled with the 29 honorees from the fall semester, 77 W&J student-athletes were recognized by the PAC for academics during the 2011-12 school year. A total of 359 student-athletes from the 10 PAC institutions were selected, led Waynesburg’s 62 honorees. Westminster was second with 49 followed by W&J.
Two Presidents, seniors cross country/track & field runner Kaitlyn Loy (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Park) and swimmer Brittany Vogel (Butler, Pa./Butler), were honored by the conference for the fourth consecutive year.
Another senior, C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), was recognized after making her second-straight appearance in the women’s javelin event at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May. Classmate Bethany Haver (Akron, Ohio/Harvey S. Firestone) also made the honor roll after capping her career with two more NCAA Division III Diving All-America awards.
The Presidents’ baseball team, which ranked 20th in the D3baseball.com final national poll, led the W&J programs with 10 honor roll members. Head Coach Jeff Mountain’s squad set a school record with 36 victories and made its third NCAA Tournament appearance in the past four seasons.
After compiling another 11-1 dual-meet record, the W&J women’s swimming & diving team had nine honorees, while the women’s track & field roster notched seven. The women’s basketball team collected five honor roll recipients, while wrestling and men’s track & field both produced four award winners.
