Soprano Lara Lynn Cottrill performs with Opera Theater of Pittsburgh in Shining Brow as Mamah for their 2013 season. She recently performed the title role of Carlisle Floyd's Susannah with Undercroft Opera in August 2012. She covered Frasquita in Carmen with Sarasota Opera in the 2012 winter season, and performed The Foreign Woman in Menotti's The Consul with Opera New Jersey in the summer of 2011. Other operatic roles include: her 2010 Pittsburgh Opera debut as Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro, Sandrina in Mozart's La finta giardiniera, Lauretta in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Papagena in Mozart's The Magic Flute, and Adina in The elixir of Love by Donizetti. Lara placed 2nd at the National Opera Association Vocal Competition 2013 in Portland, was named honorable mention Mildred Miller International Vocal Competition 2012, was a 2011 Opera Columbus Finalist, and a 2009 Winner of the Pittsburgh Concert Society Competition. In 2005, she placed First in the Friends of Eastman Opera Competition and in 2004 was honorable mention in University of Miami's Salzburg Competition, Austria. She has given numerous concerts in PA, FL, NY, VA, Italy, and South Africa. Lara graduated with her masters of Voice Performance and Literature from Eastman School of Music and from University of Miami with a bachelors in Vocal Performance. Lara believes music can enrich communities and education. As well as co-directing Jubilation Concert Series in Beaver, PA, she performs at local nursing homes, gives master classes for high school and college students, presents opera to elementary classes, and teaches private students of all ages.
